When Self-help Leads to Self-sabotage
For the Self-help writer or those who like to help themselves.
I’m at it again… I just can’t help myself, the words start to flow, spilling out for all to see. At the age of fifty I made such a mess out of my life, but instead of flushing my life down the drain I started to write. Following each word, each sentence, each paragraph, each chapter, and finally an entire book I found I could help myself heal. Simply by writing.
Before I lose your attention… You might be questioning, “What does this newbie have to offer me?” Hear me out… My current struggle is growing, which is ironic because my blog name is grow-together. I am several months into stacking on Substack and I am still in search of my community. The people who get me and want to grow with me.
My Problem Isn’t the Self-help
My life imploded over three years ago and for the last nineteen months and counting I have been spilling the beans. Each day I face struggles and what works best for me is to write about them. I suppose I could label myself a Self-help writer. And since I like to share to the public a Self-help Blogger.
Self-help Broken Down
Self per Oxford Languages, noun, a person’s essential being that distinguishes them from others, especially considered as the object of introspection.
Help per Oxford Languages, verb, make it easier for (someone) to do something by offering one’s services or resources.
Self + Help = Self-(+help) per Oxford Languages, noun, the use of one’s own efforts and resources to achieve things without relying on others.
All this time I have been helping myself along with others while on my writing journey, but my efforts are being self-sabotaged with my marketing. All of my attempts might be working slowly, but I am not seeing the growth that I anticipate.
Self-sabotage Broken Down
Self per Oxford Languages, noun, a person’s essential being that distinguishes them from others, especially considered as the object of introspection.
Sabotage per Oxford Languages, verb, deliberately destroy, damage, or obstruct something.
Self-Sabotaging Behavior per Verywell Mind, refers to intentional action (or inaction) that undermines people’s progress and prevents them from accomplishing their goals.
As a Self-help Writer/Blogger I am succeeding because I have been and continue to help myself through my writing. But that isn’t enough. I still have lots of growth ahead of me and I do not want to go at it alone.
