Pathway To Peace: Just follow the light to discover hope.
Finding a spiritual practice that works for you.
How can we find anything when we are stuck in the dark?
Over four years ago I found myself stumbling around in the dark. It was an honest drunken stumble and it led me to rehab for alcohol abuse. It was there at Through the Archways, a holistic rehab, where I discovered the light.
April 6, 2021, four years ago, I experienced a powerful spiritual awakening. It was a rebirth where I put my shame and sin-filled past to rest and woke to a new way of living. It was an extremely personal experience, one that is truly difficult to explain.

The Spiritual Awakening
A spiritual awakening isn’t a concept that is owned by any one organized religion or group. It is truly personal and catered to the person who is seeking to heal. Mine just happened to be Christianity, because I had a mustard seed of hope planted that sprouted during my stay in rehab.
The Spiritual Awakening in AA
Although my experience that initiated change is a heart changed by Christ, the program of Alcoholic Anonymous touts the spiritual awakening as to the changes that take place in the body. It’s not relegated to one higher power. Working the steps complemented my recovery.
From the Big Book - Appendices II The terms “spiritual experience” and “spiritual awakening” are used many times in this book (The Big Book) which, upon careful reading, shows that the personality change sufficient to about recovery from alcoholism has manifested itself among us in many different forms.
Within my recovery circle I have met many friends who have had this experience, but I can’t say this is my experience. Yes. I was in rehab for alcohol abuse, but it wasn’t the holistic rehab that initiated my enlightenment.
My pride kept me from accepting the need for change and my shame is what demanded it was time to change. Alcohol was simply a catalyst for rehabilitation.
The Spiritual Practice of Falun Gong
Although some people are in recovery from alcoholism and have a personality change that impacts their recovery, others just need to recover from life. They have a past that is weighing them down and their future looks hopeless.
An article from, The Epoch Times, April 2-8, 2025, Virtue Medicine, shares Falun Gong is a spiritual practice that emphasizes universal moral values such as truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance.
Ursula Dusolt is a sixty-one year old, German woman who was living a hopeless life, until one day her brother provided her with Zhuan Falun. It’s a book that the central text of Falun Dafa, outlines the practice's teachings, emphasizing spiritual enlightenment through meditation and high moral standards, with core principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance.
Ursula’s Pathway to Peace
At the age of two Ursula was first abused by a man. The abuse led to a childhood and well into her adulthood a sense of hopelessness. She battled crippling anxiety and depression.
Reading just one book, Zhuan Falun, led to her hope in healing. Her newfound spirituality gave her a purpose and sense of meaning. For the first time she was optimistic about her future.
My Walk With Christ
Finding our spirituality is a very personal journey. I can invite others on my journey but can’t expect them to have the same experience. My goal isn’t to convert anyone to my religion or my way of thinking but provide hope for those who are struggling.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
