I am kind of quiet, but I have a lot to say.
My thoughts spill out of my mouth, and make a mess.
I stumble when I speak, so I prefer to write.
My written words flow, but can get lost in translation.
I can string words together, but I get tangled up in my thoughts.
My Facebook friends think I am socially awkward, so here I am.
I am looking for a place where my jumbled up words are newsworthy.
My Coming Out Party
Hi! My name is Karen and I am new to Substack. Writing comes easy to me, but I struggle with marketing. Other social media platforms are great for sharing, not so much for building a budding published author’s platform.
The purpose of the Grow With Karen newsletter is to share my daily struggles and learn from you, my friends, what resonates. I’m thrilled to be amongst those who get me. I have much to learn, with lots of room for growth.
I think I’m at the right spot!
I would love to hear about your experience, sharing tips for platform growth and reading your words of encouragement.
Fun Facts: A little bit about myself.
During a time of brokenness I found healing through writing and the written word.
I did not break when I found myself in a jail cell, but when the shame of what I had done was made public.
I wrote, Swallow Your Pride, a speculative memoir sharing my early recovery. I continue to write to engage others who are struggling.
I am active in the recovery movement, because we all have a past in which we need to recover from.
Trigger Warnings: I’m not easily offended.
As a human I am very flawed and will discuss subjects which might be considered taboo.
I don’t have a sailors mouth, but every now and then I might slip out a curse word.
Jesus Christ and scripture will be referenced, because my path to recovery is spiritually based. And, JC accepts me, my imperfections and all!
What to expect: I am transitioning into Substack.
Dependability. I will do my best to share weekly, but find writing from my heart doesn’t happen on a timeline. As I grow I will add valuable, interesting content.
Fun. I will add humor and wit to my musings.
Vulnerability. I find when we openly share our stories that is when healing takes place. This is an invitation for you to share with me!
Pointed Communication. I am straightforward with my communication style, with a small attention span. I will not dominate our friendship.
Imperfection. My father was a writer, who struggled with alcohol and my mother a Christian educator. I however was a casework designer, turned writer, so I struggle with the use of commas!
Looking To Grow
Please consider subscribing to my newsletter. I look forward to getting to know you, building a friendship with our common interest, and having fun along the way!
Hey Karen,
I’m new to Substack too! I’d love to be your literary friend. You can check me out melaniejarboe@substack.com. I write Country Chronicles which are mostly devotionals for the country heart. I also write children’s fiction. I’m just getting started with Substack and have a lot to learn.
